As we continue to explore the main ways in which we can incorporate this year's theme of “Identity”, we had the Orange children work on self-portraits for the month of February. One thing about our orange friends is that they enjoy getting messy and love paint, so we worked on a two-part project for this portrait. We used primary paint colors red, yellow, and blue, along with balls to make the backdrop. In order to get all the children to be able to work on their back drops, we used different ball objects, some used rubber balls that were the size of golf balls. While other friends needed more of the sensory messy play, we used a hand full of marbles with a bigger dense tray and rolled them all over. Using fine motor skills, the children tipped and moved the tray so the balls would roll over. Before putting the balls in, we let the children pick what colors out of the three they wanted to use so that the paint and create different colors.

For the second part of this month's self-portrait, we printed each Childs picture but cropped half of their body out, leaving them to draw their other half. Our Orange friends got to use crayons this time to color our portrait. Some friends noticed that the picture they were working on had some of the same outfits or hair styles that they came with present day.
Purim is on the way, and we are slowly getting our projects started. This week we had the children decorate their goodie bags that will carry their projects home.
